Audion requests microphone permission (RECORD_AUDIO) to provide the following features:
- Real-time audio processing: Capture ambient audio for noise suppression, audio enhancement, and hearing assistance
- Hearing tests (Audiometry): Conduct clinical-grade pure tone audiometry tests to measure hearing thresholds across multiple frequencies (125Hz - 8000Hz)
- Calibration: Measure Most Comfortable Level (MCL) and Uncomfortable Loudness Level (UCL) for personalized audio profiles
- Speech recognition: Provide real-time captions and transcription features using offline speech recognition
- Focus Mode: Identify and enhance specific voices in noisy environments using speaker diarization
Important: All audio processing is performed locally on your device. Audio data is not transmitted, uploaded, or stored on any external servers.
1.2 User Profile Information
- Name: Optional user name for personalization of hearing profiles
- Hearing Test Results: Audiometry thresholds, calibration data, and hearing profiles stored locally on your device

2.1 Audio Processing
All audio captured through the microphone is processed in real-time on your device for:
- Noise reduction using Mozilla RNNoise technology
- Hearing compensation and personalized audio amplification
- Speech recognition and live captioning (using Vosk offline models)
- Audiometry testing and calibration measurements
Audio data is never recorded, saved, or transmitted beyond temporary in-memory processing buffers.
2.2 Hearing Test Results
- Test results from audiometry and calibration procedures are stored locally in an encrypted SQLite database on your device
- Results are used to create personalized hearing profiles and audio compensation settings
- You maintain full control over your test data and can export results as PDF reports
2.3 App Functionality
- User settings and preferences are stored locally using Android SharedPreferences
- Hearing profiles enable switching between different listening scenarios (e.g., music, conversation, quiet environments)
